Why did I start using cloth diapers? I have 3 major reasons why I switched to cloth diapers.
Lets go back to the first time around when I wanted to try cloth on our baby but the dad didn’t want to. I understood his reasoning.
After all, he was having to change the litter box and between you and me, he sucked at that. So a few months in, he had the cats potty trained to use the bathroom outside in the yard.
So of course he didn’t want to handle cleaning poo off of diapers.
Flash forward to now, we seem to have a heavy wetter on our hands. Which just means a normal diaper just refuses to hold in all that liquid. So after adjusting her size in diapers and going up, it still didn’t help.
Every morning when she woke up her back and bed sheet would be wet. So I would have to change not only her but also the whole bed covers and get a new sleep sack and pajamas.
Believe me, that became exhausting and time consuming. Plus, it would result in waking him up as well.
So, of course I started researching ways to prevent her from waking up wet in the morning.
My Findings.
One thing I found was to limit fluids before bed. I couldn’t restrict her fluid intake because she’s only two months old. That was a no go.
Next thing I saw was these booster pads. I thought about it but I didn’t want to buy extra stuff when I’m already buying two different size diapers and wipes. This would get pretty pricey down the road.
Next up on my research was cloth diapers. I remember wanting to try these diapers out before and they say they will help with leaks, heavy wetters, and blowouts.
Guys, cloth diapers was going to help in the three major problem areas I really needed help in. Plus, they will be saving us money in the long run between two kids in diapers.
And I’m all about saving some money. Secondly, cute prints to die for. Seriously, have you seen some of them. They even have fan related diapers like Harry Potter styles.
This is when I decided to order some cloth diapers and give it a go. I had a gift card from the baby shower I hadn’t used yet. So I ordered four diapers.
I went with the cover style first because if it didn’t work out they could just be used as pretty diaper covers over the disposables.
My research into the best absorbency for heavy wetters referred to Flour sack towels and Osycozy Prefolds. So I ordered some Flour sack towels and Osycozy Prefolds from Amazon.
Making the switch to cloth diapers.
The next day I told my handsome man that we are trying out cloth diapers and that they are on the way. Plus, we spent zero money on these since I used a gift card.
After waiting and washing multiple sheets, pajamas, and sleep sacks they finally came in. Cute little designs that I couldn’t wait to test out. But first things first. You need to wash them before using.
Since they were just covers I washed one time on cool cycle. The flour sack towels and ozycosy prefolds were wash a couple of times because the more you wash them, the more absorbent they get.
The Results.
Now this is what you have been waiting for. Did they work? Did they keep her dry, Daddy asleep, and give Mom less laundry?
Yes. They most absolutely did.
I literally jumped and dance around because for once she was dry! And handsome was on board with using cloth diapers.
After that I switched to using the cloth diapers at night time to get more of a feel for them. I ordered some Mama Koala pockets to see if I like those instead. I do like the pocket style, just not for night time. The pockets will be used for daytime.
The nighttime diaper will always be a cover with a flour sack towel folded inside to fit, followed by a ozycosy prefold folded the opposite way of the stitching, and the new addition of a fleece liner to help wick away moisture.
