DIY Cloth Diaper liners plus some money saving tips.

Are you starting your cloth diaper journey and want an easier way to clean them? Or do you want something to help wick away moisture when your using covers? I’ll share with you the best tips you can do yourself and save you money with this DIY cloth diaper liners tutorial.

First let me start by saying that using cloth diapers nowadays are no where near the same ones your grandparents used back in the day.

For one, we have cover style diapers that can prevent them from leaking pee and poo. All the diapers have an outside fabric that is waterproof and have leg gussets that help prevent messes. Plus there are just so many cute prints to choose from.

I started my cloth journey just last month and I’ve learned what I like and don’t like. For starters, liners help make the clean up on dirty diapers easy.

There are numerous amounts of different liners you can use but I’ve found two different liners I love to use.

First thing you’re going to have to get to make your own DIY cloth diaper liners is some fleece.

Adding a fleece liner helps wick away moisture when your using a cover and can help with the messy diapers whether you are using a cover style diaper or pocket style.

So I decided to make my own liners out of fleece. You can get your fleece either from a fabric store or a fleece blanket from your local Walmart.

Gathering materials needed to make fleece liners.

You will also need the following:

  • Pair of scissors
  • Ruler (optional)
  • Cardstock or paper

So measuring out the size of liner from the fleece can go two ways.

You can either take your diaper, place it onto the card stock, and draw a rough outline to cut,  you could use the ruler to get even lines.

Or take a piece of paper or cardstock, lay it inside the diaper, and then cut away the extra. This I think is the best way to go about it because you can get a better fit.

Now you have a guideline to use to cut your fleece into cloth diaper liners.

To save a little time, take your blanket and fold it once hamburger style. Place your guideline on the blanket and get to cutting.

With a fleece blanket from Walmart, I was able to get 20 liners. Now I know that doesn’t sound like alot but you are reusing them so it will save you some money.

Now another option you can use are baby wipes. What? I know, I know, I thought the same thing.

I use Sam’s Club wipes because I end up saving money buying in bulk and I’ve just come to love their wipes.

So after you use that baby wipe to wipe baby’s bum, just leave it inside the diaper instead of throwing it away. I only suggest using the wipes for pee only. Throw the poo ones away.

When its wash day, throw your diapers and the used wipes in the wash. Dry them as you normally do. I just use my dryer on low tumble.

They hold up and they are super soft. These can now be used as your DIY cloth diaper liners. I do only recommend using this liner once and throwing it away afterwards.

Also when your baby has a bootie rash and all you have is a petroleum base cream, you can place this liner in your cloth diapers to help protect them from building up the cream. Which will cause you problems with absorbing issues.

So now I have shown you two options you can use as liners for your cloth diapers. You can use fleece as a liner which also wicks away moisture or you can reuse those baby wipes as your liners and save money.
