Come along and make this adorable Teddy Bear Mini Piñata using your Cricut

Learn how to make this cute Teddy Bear Mini Pinata with your Cricut Machine

Hello Magical Crafters, and welcome to the year 2026! Hope your new year is starting off nice although at the time of making this, we here in Louisiana are all iced in due to the weather storm Fern. But it’s all good because I keep a well stocked pantry and we have the perfect opportunity to do some crafting.

And what better way to past the time then to make something adorable and cute. Am I right? I’m bringing to you this cute teddy bear mini pinata style, and you can only get the SVG file from my Etsy Shop.

Before diving in, we will need a few things other then the file, supplies you’ll need are…

  • Cricut machine (I have the Cricut Air 2)
  • Light grip cutting mat
  • Score pen
  • Writing pen
  • Cardstock
  • Crepe paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Svg file

Head over to the Etsy Shop and download the SVG file by clicking on the button below.

And if you want those adorable details that you see that really brings this pinata to life, head over to the Magical Crafting Library for the file.

( Disclosure,  I have everything saved to the same size, but currently Cricut Design Space uploading is making them different sizes, I have no control over that. Their new updates must have effected it somehow. Just resize first before cutting.)

And if you prefer a more visual instructions, I have a video you can watch for free over on my YouTube channel. Just click the button below to watch and if you like it, please hit that subscribe button.

I have a circut air 2, so that is what this tutorial will be based on.

Getting file ready in Cricut Design Space

Once everything is downloaded, its time to open up Cricut Design Space. You can head to the bottom of the screen and click on “upload”. You can browse or drag and drop the file. Once it’s in, you’ll be taken to a save as screen, just type in what you want to call it, I just called mine teddy bear.

Now everything with be grouped together. Just click on the “ungroup” option.

Changing cut lines into score lines

Now we need to make a few adjustments before heading to cutting it out. Because this is a personal design made outside of Cricut Design Space,  you’ll need to make them manually.  But I make it easy for you by grouping each section together.

First thing we should do is click on the inside of the panels as you see in the first picture below.

Once that’s highlighted as shown, we need to go to “operation” and select the “score” option. Now you will notice the straight lines turned into dash lines. Next, select the “ungroup”.

Our next step is to change the numbers from getting cut out to wrote out. Very similar to above, we can click on the numbers, and if you have a hard time selecting just the numbers. Go into the layers section, scroll down and then click on group section of  numbers. Then click on “operation” and select the “pen” function. You will notice the numbers went from pink to black. Now select “ungroup”.

After we change those and everything is ungroup, we need to attach the score line, panel, and number together.

Drag a Selecting box over the side panel, number, and score lines, then scroll over and click on “actions” then select the “attach” option. It also looks like a paperclip.  Now the machine will know these three items go together for the cutting process. Repeat this until all the side panels are done. And don’t forget to do the same to base layer with all the numbers.

Cutting out the Teddy Bear parts

After you’ve finished the manual work, you can select both the teddy bear parts and details and resize them to the size you’ll like. I made mine about 7 inches tall.

Save your work, then hit that Make it button.

You will be taken to a screen where it separates everything by color. This is the time to change the size for each one if you need to. For example it automatically shows you a 12×12 cut, but you can change it to an 8×11 if that’s the size you have on hand. And it will automatically rearrange your items on the mat.

I would also suggest you take the time to put your cardstock colors in the order they appear on the screen. It’ll save you time later when your switching out each cut.

Now grab your light grip cutting mat and place your cardstock onto it. Making sure it’s adhere to the mat. And follow the promts it tells you.

Once it’s done, unload from the machine and flip your mat over. Carefully take the cardstock pieces off by Bending the mat, not the cardstock pieces.

Assembly time

Once everything is cut out, I like to put all the detail pieces together, and arrange all the side panels around the base panel.

Now we need to fold along each crease line. Starting from the number 1 panel, we will place glue on the bottom of the side tab, then line it up with the number on the base layer. Making sure each section is in line. Repeat with all the side panels.

When you get to the door, the only part that is going to be glued, is the connecting tab on the opposite side of the holes. It will connect to the panel 1.

When all the side panels and door are connected,  we will add the top panel. Add glue to the side tabs and starting from the bottom, work slowly around making sure each section is lined up.

You can stick a ruler or pen inside to press on the inside and make sure everything is adhere together.  Afterwards you should have a cute little bear box.

Adding Fringes to make our mini piñata

Now it’s time for the fun part, adding our fringes to turn our bear box into a bear mini pinata.

Starting with our crepe paper, grab some and wrap around your hand a few times. Then grab your scissors and make cuts on both sides of the crepe paper. Then cut down the middle. Now you have two strips of fringes to work with.

This teddy bear shape works well starting from the bottom, and wrapping the fringe paper around. Gluing and cutting each layer going up. You can also do this in parts. Always starting from the bottom, do the front first, the sides, and then the back. How you wrap it up is your option.

Add in your string or ribbon to the holes of the door. So you’ll have easy access to the goodies inside.

Once your teddy bear box is all covered up. You’ll need to glue the pieces of the details together. You can refer back to the file or the picture below for guidance.
