Learn how to make your own Popsicle stick Stars decorations to celebrate Independence Day.

Hello magical crafters, today is a fun and messy crafting day. Let’s get the kiddos involve and let them paint each star. This will help bring their creative sides out and helps you get some homemade decorations to have for another holiday other then just Christmas time.

Supplies needed to make these Stars are…

  • Popsicle sticks
  • paint (we are using red, white, and blue)
  • paint brushes
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • jute string or yarn
  • Mod podge (for sealing the paint)

Assembling our Stars

Since I’m going to let the kiddos paint the stars, I decided to glue the sticks together in advance to have less of a stick mess. And it’ll be easier for them to paint each star instead of a ton of individual sticks.

gluing the popsicle sticks together

Grab five sticks and shape them into a star, then apply glue at the tips where they meet. Let them cool down before the kiddos grab them.

If you want to skip the paint, you could get the prepainted ones and glue them together. Quick crafting project indeed. But, this makes an easy crafting project for the kids to help decorate.

Painting the Stars

Now for the fun part, we paint. Let the kids go wild and paint the stars how they want. You can also grab a few and paint them how you like. Adding little white stars to a blue star and stripes to another one.

You could also make them more farmhouse rustic look by appling some sandpaper to each star and roughing up some paint.

If you are going to place them outside, I’d recommend going over them with mod podge to seal in the paint. Or you could also use a spray verison. It works really good but you’ll want to spray them outside because of the fumes.

Hanging our Popsicle stick Stars decorations

After all the popsicle sticks are painted and have dried, it’s time for hanging. We can now add our string and connect them together. My first idea to use these were to grab 3 stars and hang them together at different lengths. But then I also thought these would be excellent as a garland for the mantle as well.

And just like that, we have some homemade Popsicle stick Stars to decorate the home for the Fourth of July.

If you are wondering where to get your USA letters at like mine in the picture, they are available in the Party Shop. We also have a shop on Etsy you can visit too.

Did you know we have a Etsy Shop?

It’s true, we do. It’s called Ivy Lillies Crafting Co and it can be found in the menu option as “Etsy Shop”.
