Let’s start decorating the house in Paper Halloween Decorations this year with your very own creations. From hanging your mess free Spider Web Garland to flying bats and spiders.

Hello magical crafters, Halloween is coming, and I’m crafting away easy decorations for my family to have as well. My handsome really hates the fake Spider webs I get from the store this time of year to decorate the house. But I also don’t feel like its Halloween without my Spider webs everywhere. So I’ve decided to make my own webs this year. Of course they are totally different but we still get to have our webs in the home.

I’ve also included a few bats and such too. In this tutorial we will be doing the Spider web Garland together. All the other decorations are pretty easy to make, just follow the instructions below with the web garland and you’ll have the house ready for Halloween.

Supplies needed for the Spider Web Garland are…

  • Cricut machine ( I used my Explore Air 2)
  • Cutting mat (Best to use the light grip mat for paper cutting)
  • Masking tape
  • Cardstock in your color choices
  • Bakers twine or yarn
  • Spider web SVG file

Access some of our SVG files in our Magical Crafting Library, to help you craft the day away.

I made all these designs using the Inkscape software. I love using this for all my designing. If you’d like to know more about how to create SVG files in Inkscape, let me know below and I’d be happy to create a tutorial for you. Now let’s head on over to Design Space to get our creations on the wall.

Uploading into Design Space

Open up Cricut Design Space and create a “new project”. Go down to the left side of the screen and click on “Upload”. You can either drag and drop the Spider Web download into the box or search and uploaded the file. You can rename the file and add a tag. It’s then going to ask if you want to save it as a “cut file” or a “print then cut file”, today we are going to press the “cut file” then save it.

Once you uploaded the file, select it again and press “insert Image”. Now you will have three different Spider web sizes. While all of the webs are selected, go ahead and resize it to your desired size.

Press the “ungroup” button on the right side of the screen above the layers display. Right now you have a variety of different style web designs. Just click on the eye to remove the ones you don’t like from the cutting screen. If you would like to change the colors or add more webs this would be the time to do it. To Change the colors, simply click on the web, then go to the top and select your color. This way you’ll know exactly when to change paper colors during the cutting process.

Cutting out our Spider webs

Once you have the webs in your color choices and the desired sizes, it’s time to press the “make it” button at the top right side of the screen. You will now be at a screen giving you the preview of how many mats and paper you need.

This is also the time for you to select the size of paper you have for each color mats. If the project is to big for a specific size paper, it will automaciticly put the extra onto another mat. We do not need to mirror any of our mats either. If you have all that done, it’s finally time to get our webs cut out.

Starting with the first mat, line it up your cardstock to the beginning of the cutting mat. Press and rub your hand over the cardstock making sure its stuck to the mat.

If your mat is losing some stickiness, you can use masking tape or electrical tape to help the edges stay down.

Line up your mat to the left side of the machine. Press the arrow button on the machine to feed the mat into it. Make sure you have the correct material settings set. We are using cardstock. If you have regular (65lb weight) cardstock, select the light option. If you have anything heavier, select the next cardstock setting.

And if you choose to use Glitter cardstock, I have found the best way to get intricate cuts is to place the pretty side down onto the mat and have the heavy cardstock setting selected. Once you are ready, press the flashing light button.

Assembling our Spider web Garland

Once you have the web cut out, flip over your mat and slowly peel away your cardstock. This helps keep the paper from curling and if you have extra cardstock that wasn’t used, you can now save it for another crafting project.

Now that we have all of our webs cut out and ready to go, all we need to do is thread the bakers twine or yarn through the holes at the top. I designed this garland so the pattern goes like this, small- medium- large- medium- small. But that doesn’t mean you have to do the same.

You could switch up the smalls and mediums for a different look. Once you’ve threaded through each web, make a knot on the twine at each end so the webs doesn’t fall off the end and you’d have to do it all over again.

Congrats! You have just made your very own Spider web Garland using your Cricut.

You can also add in the little spiders and bats as decorating accents to the web.

For another decorating option, you could make the Spider webs out of felt and either sew the end pieces together or give it a bit of hot glue. Then you will have a matching Spider web Table runner that will last even if it gets wet. Possibilities are endless.
