Learn how to sew your own Popsicle holders for your kiddos this summer in this easy to follow tutorial.

Hello Magical crafters, today we are blowing the dust off of our sewing machines and whipping up some cute Popsicle holders for the kiddos to have this summer. Make them even special by picking out their favorite character fabric.

This is an easy sewing project, so if you’re new to sewing, this is definitely a project for you.

Supplies needed for this sewing project are…

  • Sewing machine
  • thread picked and ready to go on the machine
  • a fat quarter of fabric (about 18 by 22 inches)
  • fat quarter size of felt
  • pins (to keep our fabric together)
  • scissors

Prepping our Fabric

First wash your fabric. After its dry lets line up our fabric and felt together. Right sides together. I did two different sizes. One length about the size as the popsicle and one half the the size. Length will be either 8 inches for the long or about 5 inches for the short one. Width for both of them should be 4 inches. Keep in mind we are going to be folding it in half.

Sewing our Popsicle holders

Using your pins, insert them about an half of inch in from the edge. Place your fabric on the machine and run a running stich, then a backstich. Then continue down. This will be the top piece of your popiscle holder. Make sure to take the pin out before it hits the foot.

Sewing the top stitch of the popscile holders

For the most part, the width and length of my machine stays at this setting in the picture. I also use the (7) foot mode for the main sewing, for the top part I used the setting in the foot window.

After you stitched the top section, fold the fabric over to line the edges up, insert the pins to keep the fabric together, then sew down along the dotted line. Don’t forget to have a backstitch in the beginning and at the end.

Use your scissors and trim the excess of fabric away. Also cut away the extra string.

Flipping our fabric right side out

Once you’ve finished trimming the holder up, it’s time to flip our popsicle holder right side out. Same method you would use to roll up socks, roll up the tube and then flip it over.

flipped the top with non stitched top

The top image I did not make a stitching on the top and I just rolled down the top part. The image below I stitched the top section, so when I flipped it open, you can see the stitching.

Congrats crafters, you should have a cute popsicle holder looking back at you. Now you can go nuts and make as many as you like. This is also a great project to test out different stitching styles for the top part.
