Find out how to make these easy yarn wrapped clovers for a DIY St. Patty’s Day décor.
Hello Magical Crafters, today we are going to be making these easy but cute yarn wrapped clovers. This crafting project is very easy, so the kiddos could have fun making these as well. And you could also let them add some googly eyes to them too.
You can hang them from the mantle, around your wreath, or stick them on sticks and place them in a vase. Decorating options are endless when you make your own. In this tutorial, I’ll be hanging mine on the mantle.
Supplies needed to make these clovers are…
- Yarn ( Any color you wish)
- Scissors
- Cardstock ( could recycle a cereal box for this project as well)
- Free Clover templates
Head on over to our Magical Crafting Library to download your clover templates. I have two files. One svg file if you’d like your Cricut machine to cut the clover shapes out and a pdf file, so you can trace onto your cardstock and cut out by hand.
Cutting our Clovers out
I’ve made two different clovers, one three leaf clover and one four leaf clover, you can choose the ones you like.
If you are uisng the SVG file for your cutting machine, once you upload the file, you can duplicate the clovers to how many you would like to cut. Select the proper cut setting on the machine, ( I used cardstock) and let the cutting machine cut the clovers out for you.
If you are cutting out by hand, print the clover template out and trace onto some cardstock to give you some support with the yarn. Cut them all out.
Once you cut out your clovers, it’s time for the yarn.
Wrapping our Clovers with Yarn
Grab the yarn and wrap around the clover once. Tie a knot to secure the yarn to the clover. Now just keep wrapping the yarn around the clover until it’s all covered.
You will have to go in different directions for full coverage. Adding a bit of glue around the edges of the cardstock may also help keep the yarn in place.
This is also the perfect time to allow the kids to join in on the fun and help wrap each clover with the yarn. They could also make little Shamrock monsters by adding in some googly eyes.
Once you are satisfied with the yarn wrapped clover, cut the yarn leaving a bit to tie off. Make another knot, then tuck the knot into the clover.
Decorating ideas with your yarn wrapped clovers
Now make as many as you’d like. You could also readjust the sizes of the clovers and make some big and some small for a cool effect on a wreath.
If you would like to make your own DIY yarn wrapped clover Garland, simply add some more yarn through a loop in each clover, then hang them on the mantle. It’s as simple as that.
If you’d like the vase idea, grab some sticks or dowels and your hot glue gun. Add some glue to the stick and attach to the back of the clover. Place them in a vase with faux flowers and you’ve updated this décor item for another year. This would also be a cute idea to add the kids Shamrock Monsters to as well.
