Have you seen KPop demon hunters on Netflix?

Hello Magical Crafters,  we are brewing up something amazing today. My daughter has been obsessed watching this KPop demon hunter movie on Netflix and I saw the fans holding the light sticks for their favorite team. So obviously I had the great idea to turn this fan stick into a mini pinata version.

I also figured by the time her birthday is rolling around, she might request a demon hunter birthday party theme, so I may just be getting a head start on that with these Fan Sticks.

Today’s post, I’m sharing how to put together the SajaBoys fan stick mini pinata with the Cricut.  The video will be available to watch on  August  29th. So check back here for the link.

Supplies you’ll need to create the demon boy band fan stick are….

  • Cricut explore air 2( or any cutting machine)
  • Light cutting mat
  • Cardstock (65lb weight)
  • Score pen
  • Writing pen for cricut
  • Crepe paper
  • Scissors
  • Double sided tape
  • Glue
  • String or ribbon ( for door access)
  • SVG file
  • Detail accents

Click the button below to grab and download the Saja Boys fan stick mini pinata file.

To have the detail accents, visit our Magical Crafting Library and download it for free.

Because I have a Cricut explore air 2, that is what the tutorial will be based from, but if you have a different cutting machine that accepts SVG files, go ahead and use that.

Uploading into Cricut Design Space

Once you have purchased and downloaded thr file, it’s time to upload it into Cricut Design Space. Have the app open, click on new project. Next scroll down the left side menu and click on “upload”. You can either drag and drop the file or browse for it.

You will be taken to a preview screen, go ahead and save it with a title. It should automatically save as a cut file.

Resize your sajaboys lightstick file

Once it’s on your canvas you can go ahead and resize it since everything is grouped together. Just click on the arrow and drag it to your desired size. Make sure the lock icon is in the locked position so everything stays in portion.

Changing Cut lines into Score lines

Click on “ungroup” by the layers section. Now click on the section with all the lines. They will be grouped together so it’s easier for you. Next, click on the top drop down menu next to operation,  and select the score line option. Now those lines should turn into dash lines. Click on ungroup, and find the letters section.

You have two options with the letters. Either change them into score lines  or change it to writing pen function.  If you don’t need them, you can simply click on the “eye” icon in the layers section to hide them away. Click on ungroup. You will have to also ungroup the side panels as well.

Attaching score lines with panels

We are almost done. Now we have to attach the score lines and numbers to the corresponding side panel so the machine will know where to put them.

You can simply drag and select the panel, score line and number together, then scroll down the actions section and click on the attach button. It will look like a paperclip. Repeat this for all the side panels and the base panel.

Ready to Cut

Our next step is to save our work. Don’t forget to do this because you never know if something is going to happen and the app shuts down on you and then you’ll have to do the above all over again. Once you have done that, it’s time to hit that MAKE IT button at the top.

The preview cut screen is what you’ll see next. If you have a different size cardstock from the 12×12 default setting, go ahead and change it to your size. It will also rearrange your project for you. No need to mirror because we are working with cardstock.  Cardstock weight needs to at least be 65lb for sturdiness.

Click on the next and make sure your machine is connected. Grab your light grip cutting mat and line your cardstock onto the mat. Apply pressure and rub over the cardstock making sure it’s adhere to the mat.

Tip- if your mat is losing some stickiness,  just grab some masking or painters tape and apply it to the sides of the cardstock on mat.

Line the mat up to the machine and press the blinking arrow button to feed the mat in. Make sure your cut setting is in the cardstock+. Next press the blinking “c” button on the machine to start the cut. The machine will tell you when to insert the score pen and the writing pen.  So follow the promts.

After it’s done, press the arrow button again to release it from the machine. Bend your mat and gently take your cardstock pieces off. Bending the mat helps prevent your cardstock from curling. Repeat until everything is cut out and you should have this below.

Folding along crease lines

After you have rearrange everything, we need to grab our side panels and fold along the crease lines. The machine made the lines for us so this step is pretty easy to do.

Gluing the side panels to base

Now it’s time to assemble. Grab your glue, Aleena’s quick and dry tacky glue works great. Apply a few dots to the side tab and use your tip of the glue nozzle to spread the glue. Line the panel up to its matching number. The tab will go on top of the number on the base. Repeat this for all the number panels.

When you grab the door, only apply glue to the connecting tab on the back. The rest remains un glued as shown below in the picture.

Once all side panels are glued, keep your door open, apply glue to the top tabs and then place the top panel on. Take your time and work a section at a time, Making sure to line the sides up.

Adding fringe to our fan stick

Now the fun part, adding crepe paper to sajaboys fan stick mini pinata.

Grab your crepe paper, fold it over a few times then grab your scissors and make little cuts on both sides. Cut down the middle, creating two fringe strips.

Starting at the bottom, apply glue, wrap around and cut when you meet the other side. Repeat until it’s covered in fringe.

Apply some to the top and bottom. Add your string or ribbon through the holes of the door for easy access. Next is our details.

Apply the double sided foam tape to the black mane, then stick it onto the base. Next use your tweezers and apply glue to the eyes and carefully apply to the face. Repeat with the nose and mouth. Add more tape to the back side of the base, then line it up and add it to the the piñata top.

Congrats crafter,  you just made your own SajaBoys Lightstick mini pinata, so now you can raise it up and hype your team.

What to fill this mini piñata up with?

Obviously you can always add candy and leftover fringe pieces cut up as confetti.  But you could also add..

  • Temporary tattoos
  • Stickers
  • Glow sticks
  • Rings or bracelets
  • Pencils and erasers
  • Nail polish or lip gloss
  • Gift cards
  • Cash
