Hello Magical Crafters,  I’m bringing you the chance to make your own SajaBoys Lightstick into a mini pinata style, without needing a Cricut.

If you haven’t seen the movie KPop Hunter Demons, it’s a kids movie on Netflix and my daughter was the first to watch it. Then with anything your kids start to like, we watched a 100 times and then I got to thinking. What if I made the fan lightsticks the audience are holding in the movies, but mini pinata style. So with that thought, I jumped on my computer and starting working on the file.

If you are subscribed to my YouTube channel,  Ivy Lillies, you will have already seen the Cricut version of this Lightstick Mini Piñata. But of course I have to go and make you one too. Just because you don’t have a cutting machine doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the crafting fun.

Supplies we need to craft this lightstick up are..

  • Cardstock ( to print the template on)
  • Score pen or tweezers
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Crepe paper
  • String or ribbon
  • Printable SajaBoys Lightstick Mini Piñata
  • PDF SajaBoys details

Click on the button below to grab and download your Printable mini pinata from our Etsy Shop.

And let’s not forget to head over to the Magical Crafting Library and download the free detail elements if you want them.

Cutting and Adding Score lines

This file will take 2 pieces of paper to print. If you print it at home, I recommend changing out the paper to cardstock with the weight of 65lb or 100lb. Once it’s printed out, we need to cut it all out. Just cut on the outside of all the panels.

Next we need to add crease lines so we can easily fold the tabs over. So either grab your tweezers or Score pen and trace over the dash lines on each panel. Making sure you apply some pressure so you’re creating crease lines.

Once you’ve finished tracing over the dash lines, we need to fold the side tabs over and also fold the panels in the middle where the crease lines you made are.

Also we need to cut the holes out of the door panel so we can have easy access to our goodies inside. You can use a knife tool or a hole puncher and make the holes.

Gluing the Printable SajaBoys Lightstick together

Now it’s time to glue. I recommend something that is going to dry quickly like Beacon 3in1 craft glue or Aleenas quick and dry tacky glue.

Starting with the number 1 panel, apply glue to the back side of the numbered tab. Then line it up where  the 1 is on the base panel and hold in place a few seconds until dry. Repeat with the rest of the panels. Each panel will also have a connecting tab to connect each panel together.

When you get to the door, marked with a D, you only want to apply glue to the connector tab. No glue on the door part itself.

Once all the side panels are connected and the door is pulled open, apply glue to the top part of the exposed tabs.

Apply the top base panel onto the tabs, taking your time working from one section and going around. I started with making sure the bottom is line up and secure before moving up to the other sides.

Cutting and Adding the Fringe

You should now have a completed Lightstick wand shape. You could stop here but if you printed on to white paper, it may look weird and so we are going to move on to adding the crepe paper.

Free Details for the SajaBoys Lightstick

All you need to do to make this easy and smooth sailing is to take a good amount then fold it over itself a few times. About 6 inches long would work great and then add a few folded layers on top. I show this method in the crafting video if you wanna check that out below.

Next you wanna take small cuts along one side of the bundle, then turn it around and repeat the cuts. Then slice right down the middle. Now you should have 2 strips of fringe paper ready to use on your mini piñata.

This shape is really easy to cover, always starting from the bottom, apply the glue around the base, then apply the crepe paper. Cut where it meets, then move up a bit and add glue and repeat. Decide which direction you want the top door area of fringe to go and you should have a complete covered mini pinata.

But we are not done yet, we need to add our string to the door holes. Simply thread it through the holes and tie a knot on the inside. Cut the extra bits away. And now you could decorate it with more crepe paper or your own detail elements.

To get the full look of the preview one, you will have to download the printed version of the SajaBoys Lightstick details from the Magical Crafting Library.

One benefit of having the printed details are no extra gluing involved.  The downside is it won’t be as shiny as the Cricut version but that’s OK.

Print out the detail elements in color then cut on the outside of the details. Either add glue or double sided tape to the back side and attach to the front of your mini piñata Lightstick.
